Privacy Policy

Who we are

Cyberdeen (cyberdeen.co.uk) is a free cyber safety platform for children and families, based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at info@cyberdeen.co.uk.

What we collect

We collect as little data as possible. No account or registration is required to use Cyberdeen.

  • Anonymous page views — via Vercel Analytics. This is cookie-free, collects no personal data, and cannot identify individual visitors. We see aggregate numbers only (pages visited, general location by country, device type).
  • Contact emails — if you email us directly, we receive and store your email address solely to respond to your enquiry.

What we do not collect

  • No personal data from children
  • No accounts, usernames, or passwords
  • No behavioural tracking or profiling
  • No advertising identifiers
  • No data sold to third parties

Progress, badges, and age band selections are stored in your browser's local storage only. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

When you use our tools

Our three safety tools process data as follows:

  • Link Checker — the URL you submit is sent from our server to Google Safe Browsing to check for known threats. We do not store the URL. Google's privacy policy applies to their service.
  • Password Checker — your password never leaves your browser in any readable form. We use k-anonymity: your browser converts the password into a cryptographic hash and sends only the first five characters to our server, which then queries Have I Been Pwned. The full password or hash is never transmitted.
  • Message Analyser — the message text you paste is sent to our server for pattern analysis. It is processed immediately and not stored or shared with any third party.

Third-party services

  • Vercel — hosting and analytics (cookie-free)
  • Google Safe Browsing — URL threat checking (user-initiated only)
  • Have I Been Pwned — password breach checking (k-anonymity, user-initiated only)

Children's privacy

Cyberdeen is designed from the ground up to protect children's privacy. We do not collect, process, or store any personal information from children. No login is required. We comply with the UK ICO's Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code) in spirit and intent.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. As we collect almost no personal data, there is typically nothing to request. If you have emailed us and wish us to delete that correspondence, contact us and we will do so promptly.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform grows. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be noted in our changelog.
